About the artist
I have drawn and painted since I was small, I always loved to paint landscapes, seascapes, animals, and flowers and as my abilities and techniques have improved I have also started to paint portraits and the occasional abstract.
I was largely self taught apart from the influence of my Art Teacher at school -thanks Mr Pass! until the late 1990's when I realised I wasn't improving. At that point I sought out art classes and eventually joined the Saturday morning classes run by Malc Parnham of the Parnham Gallery. http://www.theparnhamgallery.co.uk/
Here I learned the majority of the techniques I now use and my paintings have improved enormously. I still attend just for the craic and Malc's critical eye!
Until I joined Malc's classes, only family ever got to see my work, but then I got brave and painted a view of Olu Deniz in Turkey especially for a good friend's 40th birthday. It was so warmly received that I gained huge amounts of confidence I then moved on to painting for others as gifts and soon began to sell and exhibit my work.
The next turning point was when I painted "Frosty November Morning" for my cousin Michelle who lives in Germany. Again I was amazed at how warmly my art was received and this led to the first of my international commissions and the first of my paintings to be turned into prints.
Over the next couple of years demand for my work increased until I turned my hobby into a business and now have a list of exhibitions and commissions to my credit. My work is now in public and private collections in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Germany, Crete, Corfu, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA including Alaska!
Some of my latest work is to be found on the walls and backboards of the Kuenzell Model Eisenbahn. I was asked to paint the scenic backgrounds for the model railway and since have been back to paint the murals for the childrens play corner. This was a new learning experience as I was painting with household acrylic emulsion instead of oils and on a much larger scale. Once I got used to it I found it to be great fun.
I now have several paintings on permanent exhibition at the ArtBayGallery in Fenton Stoke-on-Trent and they are also producing prints of my work for me.
It's my ambition to get to a point where I can give up the day job and paint full time for a living and luckily that day is drawing closer all the time. I hope you like what you see on this site, if you would like a special commission please contact me.
